Our History
TimberWest Forest Corp. was incorporated on January 31, 1997, and acquired portions of the business of TimberWest Forest Limited on June 23, 1997, and the private timberlands of Pacific Forest Products Limited on December 10, 1997.
January 2010
- Court upholds TimberWest’s petition of Campbell River tax bylaws aimed at its Managed Forest Lands.
May 2008
- TimberWest closes Elk Falls sawmill in Campbell River, BC.
December 2008
- TimberWest endorses a new agreement with the United Steelworkers Union (USW) Local 1-80 and Local 1-363, ending a strike that had been in effect since the summer of 2007.
March 2007
- The Timberland Operations and Corporate Office of TimberWest achieve SAFE Company certification.
June 2004
- TimberWest transforms its business into a more focused land management company by restructuring harvesting operations.
January 2002
- TimberWest launches its Operations Excellence strategy, with the goal of strengthening the performance of its existing business units through streamlining costs, improving safety performance and enhancing forest management.
February 2001
- TimberWest opens Nanaimo, BC, regional office.
January 2001
- Cowichan Lumbermill at Youbou, BC, closes.
December 2000
- TimberWest becomes the first Canadian company to complete third-party sustainable forest management certification for its private lands under the American Forest & Paper Association's North American Sustainable Forestry Initiative SFISM licensing program.
- TimberWest signs landmark agreement with Nature Conservancy of Canada to protect areas with high ecological values.
May 2000
- TimberWest initiates a $52-million unit buy-back.
November 1999
- TimberWest is awarded full registration of its Environmental Management System (EMS) under the International Organization of Standardization (ISO) 14001.
October 1998
- Capital of TimberWest Forest Corp. reorganized into stapled units.
December 1997
- Purchase of Pacific Forest Products Limited completed. TimberWest purchases private timberlands and sells Crown tenure and sawmills to Doman.
October 1997
- First cash distribution paid on trust units. Total distribution $10.9 million.
July 1997
- TimberWest Forest Limited, together with Doman Forest Products Limited, reach an agreement to purchase Pacific Forest Products Limited.
June 1997
- Equity and bank financing raised to form income trust to acquire 100% of TimberWest Forest Limited coastal operations; TimberWest Timber Trust is formed.
- Mackenzie operations sold to Slocan Forest Products Ltd. Williams Lake operations sold to Riverside Forest Products Limited.
January 1996
- Mackenzie lumbermills and Crown timber tenures acquired from Fletcher Challenge Canada Limited.
December 1993
- TimberWest Forest Limited created through Initial Public Offering.
- TimberWest assumes assets formerly owned by Fletcher Challenge Canada Limited including coastal lumbermills and logging operations, as well as Williams Lake lumbermill and Crown timber tenures.
- Fletcher Challenge Canada Limited retains 51% ownership.
