Access
As a private land owner it is in TimberWest’s interest to manage access to its lands. TimberWest manages access to its private managed forest lands for a number of reasons including concern for public safety, protection of assets, to mitigate liability, to reduce the risk of vandalism, and to mitigate the risk of wildfire.
Did You Know?
- TimberWest pays over $½ million each year in fire suppression costs
- Every two-to-three years, large wildfires on TimberWest lands cost over a million dollars to put out; these are fires that are person-caused (preventable) and not related to TimberWest operations
- Vandalism to TimberWest gates, seedlings, and roads is a regular occurrence
How Does TimberWest Manage Access?
Access to TimberWest land is managed using signage, gates, deactivation of inactive roads and in some instances, formal land use agreements with parties who meet TimberWest’s terms and conditions.
Areas of restricted access change geographically and seasonally in light of factors such as harvesting operations and hot, dry weather conditions. Access restrictions remain necessary for certain portions of TimberWest’s private lands, however designated areas of TimberWest land may be open to public access:
