Timberland Operations

In 2004, TimberWest transformed its business model by contracting out its logging activities. Historically, 50% of the Company’s log harvesting was done in-house. Today, all of TimberWest’s harvesting and road building activities are contracted out on a competitive-bid basis.

Recently, TimberWest further refined its contractor model by sub-dividing harvest contracts into smaller units. Experience has shown that small to medium-sized contractors are typically safety focused, cost competitive, and financially stable, which gives TimberWest increased flexibility and an operating structure more closely aligned with industry norms throughout North America.

Today, TimberWest’s timberland management focus is on functions that include timber inventory, strategic silviculture investments, harvest planning and the marketing and sales of timber products.
